Get Road Trip Ready - Organize Your Chargers

Four family members, at least one device each, plus the chargers, aux jacks, cords for the DVD players, and we are a tangled mess when we're all heading off on a road trip together.

We're lucky that we have enough adapters to accommodate all the chargers and long enough cords to make it work, but it still drives me crazy, not to mention that it doesn't seem safe to have cords snaking around that can easily be caught in feet and bags! The cords drag on the floor and get stepped on, and we're always replacing them.

So how to keep everyone charged and happy as we head off to vacation?

1.       Coil the cables.

It's easy to turn any cable into a coil. Take a charging cable, and wrap it around a pencil (neatly, of course!) Leave a few inches at each end free, and tape the ends of the coil with painter's tape. Use a hairdryer for a few minutes, then let the cable stay until cool. Untape, slide the pencil out, and your cable is coiled!

2.       Clips and mounts.

I've found some great packs of clips online, that will let you mount your phone and keep the cables clipped neatly - and they are incredibly inexpensive. I prefer a magnetic mount that clips into the vents, but I do like the adhesive clips to keep the wires in check.

3.       Store it if you're not using it.

This is the biggest one that ends up being more family training. I keep a pouch in the passenger side door that holds all our cables, and the only cables we keep plugged into the usb are cables that are plugged into devices.

The devices aren't going away any time soon, so the best thing to do is keep them as organized as possible!
